Flights Resume at Edinburgh Airport Following Substantial Control Tower IT Issue

A technical fault at Edinburgh's ATC meant no planes could enter or leave the facility.

Air travel have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a substantial air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were halted after an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, significant disruption are likely to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

A spokesperson had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Source of the Issue

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Passengers should still plan to verify the schedule of their journey before traveling to the terminal as backlogs are cleared.
