Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson stated he narrowly avoided a life-threatening incident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two marshals ran across the track right in his path

The dangerous situation happened on the third lap when marshals were seen on the racing surface as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to change his compromised front wing

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Shortly afterward, the Formula 1 racer Lawson radioed to his pit wall engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you just see that? I could have... killed them"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was seeing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I got to Turn One and suddenly there were two dudes dashing across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, frankly, it was so dangerous"

Track Safety Questioned

"Obviously there's been a failure in communication somehow but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a ongoing race track marshals can be authorized to just dash across the track in such a way. I have no idea why, I'm confident we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Official Investigation Underway

The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is actively examining the situation

"After an occurrence at turn one, track officials was notified that debris was present on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the regulatory authority

"In the third rotation, safety personnel were alerted and put on alert to access the circuit and clear the fragments once every vehicle had gone by"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had pitted, the instructions to dispatch officials were canceled and a caution signal was shown in that zone"

"Our inquiry continues what happened following that moment"
