Promoter Eddie Hearn Warns of Lawsuits Against Eubank Jr Following ‘Sabotage’ Allegations
Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn has threatened to take legal action against Chris Eubank Jr, following the fighter accused his opponent’s team of engaging in dirty tricks and deliberate disruption before their upcoming second bout.
Fighter’s Accusations
The boxer, who won their first encounter by clear judges’ verdict, claimed that emergency transport taking him to hospital post-fight was intentionally blocked for a significant period.
“They did everything to try and undermine me in that last fight,” Eubank Jr declared. “Violations of agreement, financial penalties, rehydration clauses, a sabotaged weigh-in, one-sided broadcast remarks and refereeing. The list goes on.”
He also claimed that his support staff were blocked from entering the stadium and that security personnel tried to delay his arrival on purpose.
Hearn’s Response
The promoter dismissed the allegations as “nonsense” and threatened legal consequences unless Eubank Jr retracts his statements.
“What he doesn’t know is that there is official records from the event, it’s there documented clearly,” Hearn emphasized.
He added, “He will be making an apology, or we’ll be taking legal action. These accusations personally. The company’s integrity is impeccable.”
Historical Context
This conflict involving the two fighters stems from a decades-old family rivalry starting in the late 1980s when their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Benn Sr, competed in a pair of epic matches.
Remembering a Boxing Legend
During the press conference, Conor Benn honored to recently deceased fighter Ricky Hatton, who was found dead at his home aged 46.
“Hatton represented somebody that greatly supported me professionally and somebody who took me in as a father figure,” Benn stated. “I felt at home during times without a home. His influence a lot to me.”
Looking Ahead to the Rematch
The rematch, marketed under “Unresolved Matters,” is set to occur come 15 November inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The veteran fighter will have new trainer BoMac in his corner, whereas Benn promised to come back in better version of himself.
The trainer noted, “I believe it’s going to be a little bit easier in the rematch. Eubank has figured him out.”
The younger fighter retorted using a defiant remark: “It’s amusing that you hired an additional coach , since you know you’re going to need it.”
