Unveiling a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Turdy Character on a Quest to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered plenty of entertaining creations from small studios. Yet, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure includes a protagonist that is literally a turd trying to travel to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: just use a one button to leap. Throughout one hundred fifty levels, you'll face boss fights and access a store to acquire customizations for your dung hero.
Time your jumps precisely, as a mistake means starting over. Bounce on floating orbs to launch yourself to new heights, traverse crumbling surfaces, and activate switches to unlock new areas. Collect currency for buying more difficult levels in which gameplay intensifies.
In terms of design, the demo features vibrant stages and an amazing background music. The retro visual style featuring shifting geometric shapes evokes memories of fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
Even though tough to name previous releases where you are a dung character, video games often incorporated fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as soil enrichment. Naturally, such content shows up heavily in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already received impressive awards, including being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is available at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on Steam in the fall.
